FAQs

Q: Do I need to be at the meeting to make my donation?

A:  Being at the meeting and voting is what PoT2 is all about.  However, while we strongly encourage your attendance, if for some reason you cannot make the meeting, you may either a) send your signed check to the meeting with a friend, b) mail in a signed check with the "To" field empty before the meeting to Karen Stone, 217 Noank Rd., Mystic, CT 06355, c) drop it off/mail it in to Karen immediately afterwards with the "To" field filled in, or d) go to our donation page and donate electronically.

Q: I am not a good public speaker.  Can I ask a friend or a member of the organization I'm pitching to speak for me if my name is chosen?

A: No.  The person who puts his or her name in the hat must be a PoT2 member and must speak, if chosen.

Q:  Can I pitch my own organization?

A:  Absolutely.  You can pitch any organization you like, as long as it is a non-profit organization or worthy cause, and is locally based.

Q:  Can I support an organization outside of southeastern Connecticut?

A:  No.  Our geographic reach is defined as the 16 towns in southeastern Connecticut:  Bozrah, East Lyme (including Flanders and Niantic), Franklin, Griswold, Groton, Ledyard, Lisbon, Montville, New London, North Stonington, Norwich, Preston, Salem, Sprague, Stonington, Voluntown, Waterford, and Colchester.

Q:  Can I support a national organization that has a local presence in southeastern Connecticut?
A: Yes, as long as the activities of the organization directly impact the local population.

Q:  Can I support an individual or a worthy cause that is not a 501c3 non-profit?
A: Yes, they could still be considered by having the donation managed through our partnership with the Cactus Jack Foundation, a 501c3 with a mission to aid individuals, families, and other charitable organizations in need throughout Southeastern CT.  If this is something you'd like to do, check with the PoT organizers before you put your name in the hat to be sure your idea can be supported.
